If you are interested in adopting a shelter animal, do not wait!! The animal you see may not be there tomorrow. Call the shelter and give them the impound number of the animal you are interested in. Ask them to note your name, phone number and date you will come to adopt. BE SURE TO GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH! Then get in your car and go save a precious life!

she is SO much prettier than this picture

this beauty was picked up as a stray. hmm, a cat walking down the street and suddenly she is swooped up and brought into the shelter as a stray?? i don't get it. in any case, this sweet girl is very sad in a cage. she rubbed and purred but looked at me with the saddest eyes. you need to see this cat "in person" to see what a great, feminine beauty she truly is. please hurry, there are too many cats at the shelter and they do not get to stay long.

this dog is SO sad, so terrified-she shattered my heart

this dog reduced me to tears. after years of doing this, it is not often that i cry at the shelter. but this girl did me in. i have never seen a dog cry the way this one did. she is probably still crying in her cage as i type this. it is the closest i have ever seen to a dog crying like a human. the fear, worry, terror and utter despair that went across this dog's face as she whimpered and trembled was positively eerie. i swear, i am not making this up--this dog cries like a human. the shelter has listed her as 8 years. she does not seem like an 8 year old dog to me. i cannot say that she is the sweetest dog, although i suspect that she is. she was too terrified to do anything except sit at the back of her cage, crying and shaking. her kennel mate is an equally sad case--scared, trembling and full of milk with no puppies in sight. shame, shame, shame on the people who did this to these poor dogs who are about to die for sins of their people. go see these dogs for yourself--you will cry too. is it as hopeless as it seems for these two??

rescued! thank you Ace of Hearts!

please don't let this SWEET older girl die alone and scared. she is on the euth list for tuesday, sept. 6. she MUST find a foster or forever home or she will lose her life.

wow, i cannot believe she is on the euth list. i guess it makes sense. she is "old" and not considered very adoptable but i just cannot believe that anyone is capable of killing this sweet, very dear dog. she came in as a stray with a microchip. they put her on a long 15 day hold and contacted her owner who, as usual, never showed up for her. during her stay she has totally won me over. she is quiet, well behaved and really quite a little lady. she never barks, always lets her pushier roommates cut in front of her, never calls attention to herself--she just quietly stares at you with those big, brown eyes full of heartbreak, sadness and LOVE. she is gentle, soulful, loving and really just a good, good girl.

think of your own beloved dog or cat. is this the ending you would want for him or her? to sit in a kennel, scared and lonely waiting to be euthanized? this dog will probably kiss the hand of the person who comes to put a rope around her neck to lead her on her very last walk.

ideally this dog needs a forever home where she can live out the rest of her life being cherished and adored. she will give back more love than you can imagine. a foster home would be second choice. this dog would not do well being kenneled for a long time.

if you call the shelter and they tell you there is somebody coming to rescue or adopt this cat or dog, please be aware that many people put their name on an animal but do NOT come through to save it. a name on a dog or cat is NO guarantee that the animal will not be euthanized.

this sweet mom had kittens who died at the shelter. she just HAS to make it out of the shelter and into a home!!

she is unbelievably cute, loving and sweet. i truly adore her and cannot imagine a better kitty. this pretty, petite girl was dumped at the shelter pregnant and had 5 kittens on august 14th. as is always the case with kittens born at the shelter, her kittens were not thriving. today she was sitting in a box with her kittens. their little bodies where cold and it was clear that they were dying a slow, painful death. some of the kittens lay completely still, a few crawled around gasping for air. i asked the kennel manager to end their suffering.

a shelter worker came and took the box of kittens out and set it on a counter. mom kitty stared across the room and never took her eyes off of the box of kittens. when the worker picked up the box and left the room with her babies, momma cat followed him with her eyes and let out one tiny meow. she looked so confused and sad. i pet her and she rubbed her face against me.

this cat, with the big beautiful eyes and the amazing dark tabby stripes would be the most wonderful companion. she has had such a sad, short life. please, somebody, give her the happy ending she so deserves. don't let her die alone and unloved.

help! 8/23 she is now on the euthanize list. she needs out ASAP!! she is a total DOLL, please don't let her die!

i really like this dog so very much. she is extra friendly and outgoing. she sits right up at the front of the kennel waiting until somebody notices her. she gets all happy and wags her whole body when you come towards her. she is gentle, responsive and super affectionate. she tries to give kisses through the cage. she seems to be very bright or perhaps she has just fooled me by they way she tilts her head from side to side when you speak to her. she is sweet and playful with her kennel mates. it is doubtful she will get out alive. she is easy to overlook in a sea of medium sized brown dogs. plus, she is in a poor location which doesn't help her chances. this girl is DESPERATE to get out alive. please save her, she is very special. hurry, there may not be much time.

her owner died and the relatives dumped this sweet cat at a high kill shelter. must she die too?

i really, really wish i had the words to save this cat's life. i really wish you could meet her because there is NO WAY you would let a cat so dear die alone, unloved and afraid at the shelter. i ADORE this little cat. honestly, she is not much of a maine coon. she is a petite fluffy tabby. she is truly one of the sweetet, most endearing cats i have ever met. she is so very sad, clearly she misses her person. she is stuck in a tiny cage, in a room behind a locked door with nobody to ever pet her or show kindness. the minute i open her cage, she leapt forward, SO eager for contact and love. she starts to make "nursey paws", she raises her head to meet my hand when i go to pet her, she rubs against everything and is just so beside herself with joy that somebody is giving her love and comfort. if you met her, you would want to take care of her--whisk her away from this scary place and make everything all better. obviously somebody really loved this cat. what kind of relatives dump a beloved cat at a high kill shelter? please, please save this little one.

i ADORE this cat. he is on the euthanize list and has NO time left. please save his life!

look at him, with his little round face, his big round eyes, his adorable pink nose. could he be any cuter? when he first arrived he was outraged to be in a cage. as you can see from his picture, he protested the deplorable conditions and demanded to be let out. when he first arrived, he was full of personality, poking his paws out, "talking', rubbing and purring when anybody even looked at him. now the poor guy is disheartened and sick with upper respiratory. as most of you know, upper respiratory is a just a kitty cold which can be easily cured with antibiotics and time. nobody will notice him now that he is sad and not feeling well. he spends his day curled up in a ball at the back of his cage. but if you open his cage to pet him, he is still the same amazingly affectionate, adorable boy. really, this is a GREAT cat.

please save him. the shelter has 136 cats right now. NONE of the adults are getting adopted. everyone adopts the smallest, youngest kittens and they leave the amazing adult cats to die. if you are a potential adopter, please be aware that the shelter staff may try to discourage you from adopting a sick cat, even though it is just a cold and NO reflection on the cat's general health. please do not let them dissuade you from saving a precious life who REALLY needs to be saved.

rescued! thank you mary kaye!

he is pretty much the nicest, happiest, friendliest most gentle dog you could ever hope to meet.

he absolutely cannot control how happy he is to receive some attention and will do the full body wiggle/wag if you even look at him. even though he is young and SO outgoing, he does not strike me as a hyper dog. he is just a dog who is super excited to get some loving which doesn't happen often enough in this place. he is very good with all of his kennel mates and seems to be just an all around great dog. he is rather petite and probably weighs about 40 pounds.

the south l.a. shelter is completely overcrowded. there are 232 dogs and 136 cats at the shelter today. this sweet, adorable, loving young boy has very, very little chance of making it out without help. please save his life!

rescued! thank you gina and san diego pet rescue! please email sdpetrescue@cox.net for adoption information.
