The South LA City shelter is a high volume shelter, receiving many owner turn ins and strays. The animals have very little time to find a home. If you are interested in adopting a shelter animal, do not wait!! The animal you see may not be there tomorrow. Call the shelter and give them the impound number of the animal you are interested in. Ask them to note your name, phone number and date you will come to adopt. BE SURE TO GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH! Then get in your car and go save a precious life!

RESCUED! Thank you Dogs Without Borders!

I love this little guy. He sits quietly on his pillow and faces the back of his cage, trying not to look at the rest of the scary shelter. I opened his cage and he timidly looked at me, unsure of what I was going to do. He let me pet him and he REALLY relaxed and seemed to feel so much more safe. I gave him a chicken treat and and he was a happy little camper. Sure he doesn't have conventional good looks but who can resist those Marty Feldman eyes and that darling little underbite?

He has been scared and lonely at the shelter since December 28. NOT a good way for him to start the new year.

Please email yep6cats@aol.com if you can foster, adopt or rescue.

"HOPE"
NO HOPE?

Adult 4 year old cats have a very hard time finding homes. Don't ask me why, I think the adults are so soulful, sensitive and loving. The rescued ones KNOW you have saved their lives and they are so grateful and loyal.

Poor Hope has been stuck at the shelter for a while now. When she first arrived, this sensitive girl was so scared of all the loud sounds and barking dogs. She started to relax and then became very friendly, sitting up at the front of the cage. But everyone would walk past her to make a fuss over the kittens.

She is now so depressed that she lies in a ball at the back of her cage. If you open the cage, you will see she is very loving and affectionate-she is just overwhelmed by the awful situation she is in.

Please go visit her and ask a kennel worker to open her cage so you can see what a nice girl she is. She has no chance of getting out unless somebody from the internet reads about her and goes to save her. She is a really nice cat.

This poor guy is SO sad. He is very social and wants so much to be loved and pet. He sits at the front of his cage waiting to be noticed and will greet you with an insistant "MEOW" if you come close. Super outgoing and full of personality--not the kind of cat to hide when your friends come over. Please come meet him!

RESCUED!

This beautiful girl has such an unusual taupe sort of coloriing. She is tall and lean with big round vibrant eyes. VERY strikingly pretty. Poor thing has been at the shelter since August!!! She and about 50 other cats were held as evidence in a court case. They have been available since August and while many have been adopted, there are still some wonderful cats who have been waiting for over FIVE MONTHS!! She is one of the poor kitties who has lived at the shelter for 5 months. I think the problem is that she is initially timid. Actually, all of the cats from that home are initially aloof but they are the sweetest cats ever, once you open their cage and pet them. Please come meet her, she is really a very loving, affectionate and pretty girl who would love to get out of a cage and into a loving home. After all she has been through, she cannot die at the shelter!!!

Please email yep6cats@aol.com if you would like to foster this cat or any shelter cat to help save lives!

UPDATE, RESCUED AND ADOPTED BY HER WONDERFUL FOSTER MOM!!

She has the face of a puppy but the profound sadness of an old dog who has suffered much. She lies in her kennel with her face to the wall, completely unresponsive. I called her many times but she would just ignore me. Yesterday I took her out of her kennel. She trotted out in a weird, confused sort of way, her head down and eyes facing the floor. She would not look at anyone.

She seemed happy to be on the grass. Being outside seemed very familiar to her. She sniffed and wagged her tail a bit. When I brought her into the visiting area, she avoided me. I tried to lure her with baby talk and still she ignored me, face down-sniffing her new surrounds. Then it dawned on me--this dog cannot hear, she is deaf!! I clapped my hands and whistled to confirm. THIS DOG'S WORLD HAS NO SOUND.

I went to pet her and she let me but she did not seem to care. I lifted her head to make her look at me but she averted her eyes. She seemed very uncomfortable with being pet and loved, as if it was something she was not familiar with. She kept politely trying to get away from me but I was relentless. I kept petting her and talking sweet, even tho I knew she could not hear my voice. I did this for a while and then let her go explore the cement yard again.

After a while, she looked in my direction. I clapped my hands and motioned to her to come to me AND SHE WAGGD HER TAIL! Then she surprised me and trotted straight to me, tail still wagging, and let me pet her! SUCCESS!! This dear little dog seems to have had the saddest., most lonely life. She is emotionally shut down but I know with love and time, she would completely blossom. I have rescued dogs like this before and they completely transform in a loving home.

She would be no trouble. She is a good, mellow dog who gets along with other dogs. She needs out ASAP! Can anybody help her? Wouldn't it be wonderful if she could be in a foster or forever home for Christmas?

THIS IS URGENT! SHE WILL SOON DIE.

PLEASE EMAIL COCKERSANDKITTYS@AOL.COM IF YOU CAN FOSTER OR DONATE TO SAVE HER SWEET LIFE!!!

Gorgeous or gorgeous? There are so many dogs at the South LA shelter, even stunning dogs like this get overlooked. He is an amazing dog with an easy going, calm temperament. Very affectionate and sweet and gets along with FOUR very large kennel mates. A truly special dog. He is a big guy, maybe 60+ pounds? Very tall and lean. PLEASE come save him!

Rescued! Thank you Ace of Hearts! Please visit www.acesangels.com for adoption information.

Poor babies are SO scared at the shelter

At first I saw only newspaper, then one poked her nose out. I started taking pics and was surprised to see another nose under the newspaper. These two kittens are so very scared it is beyond heartbreaking.

I pet them and they were SO receptive, loving and sweet. They looked at me with eyes full of tentative hope. The girl is a bit more brave and eventually emerged from under the paper. They are both rather petite and dainty looking with beautiful tabby markings. The girl has striking orange/amber eyes and the boy has pretty green eyes. They are two peas in a pod who only have each other now.

Please do not let them be ripped apart from each other. Please do not let them go to some crappy home who will not love and adore them. Please do not let them EVER end up at a high kill shelter ever again!! PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM DIE!! The shelter is full, they need out now!

They are so innocent and trusting, little babies who have been SO wronged. They would be the best little friends, they are so gentle and loving. Pray they are adopted together to the best home. It is not a likely outcome at this shelter.

This is a GORGEOUS kitty with a slightly fuffy gray tabby coat and pretty amber eyes. He is a total sweetheart and purrs immediately when you pet him. This sweet boy is sitting waiting for somebody to save his life and take him home. Yet another GREAT cat who had the misfortune to end up at a high volume shelter.
