The South LA City shelter is a high volume shelter, receiving many owner turn ins and strays. The animals have very little time to find a home. If you are interested in adopting a shelter animal, do not wait!! The animal you see may not be there tomorrow. Call the shelter and give them the impound number of the animal you are interested in. Ask them to note your name, phone number and date you will come to adopt. BE SURE TO GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH! Then get in your car and go save a precious life!

BEYOND URGENT! PLEASE SAVE HIS LIFE

what are the chances that a very sweet, very handsome five year old kitty will find a home during kitten season? this is a nice boy, very mellow and friendly. i hope he makes it out.

UPDATE 5/12:this poor cat, who came into the shelter healthy, caught a kitty cold while under their care. he is now in isolation where nobody can see him. he has NO CHANCE at all unless somebody sees him on the internet. if you adopt this cat, you are entitled to a free vet visit when you show your shelter paper work. he simply needs antibiotics, some good food and lots of tlc and he wil recover just fine. a kitty cold is nothing serious, unless the kitty is in the shelter. then it a death sentence. please don't let this sweetheart die just beause he has a simlple cold. he will be a loving and grateful companion.

Rescued! Please email yep6cats@aol.com for adoption information.

Rescued! Thank you Cathy! For adoption information please email ck1puppylove@yahoo.com

This guy is so handsome! He looks to be a pure liver Dalmatian. He is super sweet and runs to the front of his kennel to greet everybody with a wagging tail. This is a calm, well mannered dog who gets along with his kennel mates. He is medium sized, approx. 45 pounds. We all like him so very much and cannot understand why this gorgeous, loving dog is being overlooked. If a dog this pretty can't get out, the rest of the dogs are in BIG trouble. Please come see him tomorrow, April 24, to see what an awesome dog he is--he truly is out of time.

Many of these dogs and cats are rescued but they still live in cages. Can you help us save lives by fostering a dog or cat in your home?

the following dogs and cats have had their lives saved by a caring rescue group. however, it is very hard to find good foster homes--ones that are commited to giving the dog or cat a safe, loving place to live until they can find their forever home. so while they are out of the shelter, many are still in cages. of course, they get lots of visitors, walks and attention but it is not the same as being in a home. additionally, boarding is a large expense for rescuers. if we can recruit more dedicated foster homes, the cost of boarding can be used to save even more lives!

volunteers needed to help walk dogs, set up at adoption events for cats and dogs, transport animals or foster a dog or cat. please email yep6cats@aol.com and i will match you with a rescue group who needs YOUR help!

Although she is listed as a Cocker Spaniel mix, I believe Fluffy is more likely a smaller version of a Border Collie.

ADOPTED, NEVER PICKED UP FROM ABC.

This little guy was adopted and returned. Evidently, he was sent to ABC for spay/neuter surgery. He has an old injury/possible fracture to his jaw and for some reason, the clinic passed on surgery. His new family never picked him up. Evidently, they did not want a dog who is not perfect!

His kennel card notes no swelling, no wound, no obvious pain. Eating very well. No treatment needed. Cage rest. This is not a critically ill dog.

Still, he needs to get out ASAP. He is immediately available for adoption or rescue. Please save his life!

RESCUED! Thanks, Carolyn!!

This handsome boy was picked up as a stray, 4/8. He is listed as a 5-year old, but he looks younger. His kennel card notes that he is a keep alone, so perhaps he needs to be an only dog. He did not appear to have any issues with people. Please ask to see him out of his kennel. So many of these animals are under a great deal of stress at the pound, which is essentially a very hostile environment.

RESCUED. Thanks Boxer Rescue!

HER PUPPIES ARE ALL DEAD.

This Momma dog lovingly took care of 7 puppies until yesterday, April 10. From the first day they were impounded on March 24, these one-month old puppies received the best maternal care. Their Momma nursed them; kept them clean; and, so it appeared, healthy. But life in a city pound is a harsh existence, particularly for vulnerable newborns. The kennels are unsanitary and drafty. As a result, many of the animals suffer from kennel cough and upper respiratory infections. Yesterday these 7 puppies were "euthanized." Supposedly, they all had parvo.

Momma dog's life is now in jeopardy. A rescuer has an Adopter Alert on her until Tuesday; however, the Vet said that will be her last day.

This is such a sweet, sweet dog. Yesterday, before she was taken to the Medical Room, she sat alone in her whelping box.She had no more puppies to nurse. She was so despondent. Eventually she came to the front of her kennel and licked my hand. But she is so, so sad. Can anyone save this girl?

"blackie"
RESCUED! this poor mom dog is terrified at the shelter. she RESCUED!has an especially sad story.

Blackie was dumped at the South L.A. shelter her two puppies and also two adult male dogs. A rescuer intercepted the puppies at the door, unaware that these people were also going to dump mom dog and the two males. The rescuer went on to save two urgent adult dogs impounded at this shelter in addition to the two puppies she intercepted. As the rescuer was walking out, she was devastated to see the same people who dumped the puppies walking in with the three adult dogs. If only she had known that there was a momma dog too, she would have saved her. But she had already saved more than she could handle, she was just not able to help the adult dogs. Since then the two males have been adopted and the puppies are safe. But this sweet momma dog is facing death. Blackie is terrified and rightfully so. She is the one left behind.

The day she came into the shelter she was nervous but walked in easily. As the employee took her to the back she did not struggle but just looked back at her owners and pulled towards them, not wanting to be separated from the people she loved and trusted. They waved bye and left. The reason for dumping the dogs was "owner troubles". Now everyone in her group is saved but her! She has now been at the shelter for three weeks. She is beyond URGENT and is not showing well. She is completely adorable but it is hard to tell from this photo. Initially she was sweet but shy. Now she has become very depressed and she stays in the back of the cage trying to hide from the things that frighten her. One day someone is going to come to her cage to get her...I am hoping it will be someone to take her home and love her, not someone to lead her to the back room to end her life. She is traumatized and will need some TLC. She looks at people who pass by with such sad eyes. I am sure she is missing her puppies and just so confused and afraid she will be hurt. Blackie has very little time left. Please save her life.

RESCUED!
