The South LA City shelter is a high volume shelter, receiving many owner turn ins and strays. The animals have very little time to find a home. If you are interested in adopting a shelter animal, do not wait!! The animal you see may not be there tomorrow. Call the shelter and give them the impound number of the animal you are interested in. Ask them to note your name, phone number and date you will come to adopt. BE SURE TO GET THE NAME OF THE PERSON YOU SPEAK WITH! Then get in your car and go save a precious life!

This is such a magnificent dog. He looks impeccably well-cared for. Cropped ears and a beautiful sleek coat. I rechecked his kennel card today and he is definitely a stray, who is now available for adoption. And very much at risk. He may need to be an only dog. Okay, we can live with that -- just as long as he gets out alive!

This is a very sweet dog. She came in as a stray, 3/12. She is a lovely young girl. Gets along great with her kennel mate. I hope she gets adopted to a good home. One where she is treasured and her people are responsible enough to keep her safe and happy. Is that too much to hope for?

Ralph was dumped at the pound by his person. The ultimate betrayal. His owner claims "landlord" problems. So often this is the case. Before adopting an animal from the pound, it would be wise to know if your lease permits pets. Otherwise, you've done the animal no favor to take it home and then bring it back to the pound. If lucky enough to get out, I believe Ralph will be a great companion. He has lots of good years ahead of him, provided he is adopted or rescued. Please give Ralph a chance.

"Sparkle"

I was in the Lobby, when this beautiful girl was being dumped by her family. I mentioned to them that this particular breed has a very difficult time getting adopted or rescued. An ACT (who was at Receiving and overheard my comment to this family) told them "we have Staff rescue."

For some dogs, today was a day to relax in the grass and get some much-needed TLC from an attentive volunteer.

For just one brief afternoon, he was a happy dog. Unfortunately, his outing was over by 5:30. He was not picked up at the Best Friends adoption event, so he is back in his cage. Please save this puppy's life. He'll be out of time any minute!

This puppy is so incredibly cute. He is listed as a Shepherd mix; however, he has markings look Rottie or Dobie. Whatever he is, he is certain to be a large, handsome dog. Right now he is just a long-legged puppy, raring to go. Whoever adopts him, should be prepared to do some serious training. Otherwise he'll become a problem and wind up back in the pound. And no one else will want him.

This young Rottie was brought in on 3/16 as a stray. His kennel card notes "unsocialized" and has a cautionary "will bite" notation as well. When I visited with him today, he was friendly and affectionate. Even licked my hand. Stray animals who are "caught" by Animal Control Officers are often extremely frightened by the experience. Some may react defensively or aggressively. My sense is that he was initially difficult but may now have settled down. He gets along well with his kennel mate. It's obvious that he was someone's pet. He is already neutered and in good condition. His kennel card also notes he has a healing abrasion on his front right leg. That could possibly have happened while he was out on the street.

Unfortunately, it appears no one has reevaluated this dog. His kennel card will pretty much rule out any potential for an adoption or rescue -- and that will result in this dog losing his life.

Please ask to see this boy out of his kennel. It will be his only opportunity.

EUTHANIZED, 3/24.
